Now, I took the day off a few weeks ago just to maybe have some time to breathe in some non-london air but England being England, it decided to chuck it down all day. Wonderful. Wasn't all that bad as the light on rainy days is actually perfect for painting. I have mentioned on previous posts that detail is usually a no go for me but I think I may be a changed person. A born again detailed arty person if you like. I'm not sure how I did this but this is by far the most impressive detailed piece I have done so far. I don't like to be 'blow my own trumpet' but seriously...how the bloody hell did I do this?
Not everything in this painting is perfect but the bottom lip looks so realistic and even looks as though it's coming out of the canvas. This girl did good :)
As most of my pieces, this was not at all how I had imagined this coming out. I was planning something more similar to my eye piece I posted a while back as I given the idea to do a triptych piece which would involve combining 3 canvas together with two being paintings of eyes and the other lips. With that in mind, I actually looking to paint the lips in a similar colorful way to that eye but instead it came out more realistic. How did this even happen?
I absolutely love this painting and I am soooo soo soo soooooo chuffed with it! whats quite interesting and not obvious from the photo. is that the lines that actually make the painting look 3D are not painted on. In fact, I used the edge of those pieces off wood you get when you buy a new canvas and scraped bits of the paint away. Clever stuff. I have been buying canvas' for years and I still have no idea how those piece of wood work. All I know is that they help tighten the canvas up by shuving them into the corners. To be quite honest with you, the canvas looks exactly the same to me with or without them. I am most liking using them wrong or someones is being kept in a job for no reason. Anyway, they came in super hand for this though so its all good :)
My next plan of action will be to paint the other two eyes with this theme. Lets hope my detailing streak remains or if salvador Dali wants to posses me that would be helpful too. Hear my cry Salvador, hear my cry.
