One of my friends asked me to create a piece of art for her new flat. She had the idea of a pastel pale blue background with pastel colours dripping in the middle and I thought...'oh god I can so do that. That is totes easy peasy'. Well, wasn't I wrong. All the paints in the middle of the piece were mixing in with the background and loosing their vibrant pastel-ness. So I tried a few different routes and still the outcome was same which was me swearing a lot at the brown mess I saw before me. I couldn't give up but, I hated to admit it, but that bastard painting defeated me! I was soooo annoyed at myself for 1) letting my friend down 2) for wasting so much paint and a perfectly good canvas and 3) for having such a potty mouth.
Weeks went on and I just spent a few mins a day staring at the mess that I had created. It literally looked as though a child had puked all over it!
Enough was enough and I got all my paints out along with a random sponge that I had bought a few months ago which looked like a piece of coral.Impulse buy. Now, I'm not one to just sit and plan, which you will probably gather throughout this blog, so I just decided to exploded the content of some blue and white paint onto the canvas and spent about an hour just swirling and dabbing the sponge into the paint to create and manipulate a textured look. I still wasn't 100% happy but at this point I was getting quite high off the paint fumes so decided to take a break. I didn't want the paint to dry so I put loads of cling film on top to stop the paint from drying up but this was not a good idea. When I re-visited the painting, the paint had dried to the cling film and I couldn't pull it off. This canvas clearly hated me. Turned out to be a good thing in the end as the cling created more texture. Ha! In your face you damn canvas! I continued with the swirling, dabbing and scrapping. It still needed that extra umph so I had a rummage in my mums kitchen and pulled out loads of old foil and added this in. voila.
Even though this piece was a pain in my bottom, it is actually my favourite piece. Even so it is now hanging on my wall right in front of my bed. I wake up to it every morning. Holly 1 : Canvas 0
